Pure Imagination was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley specifically for the 1971 Willy Wonka movie. Sadly it didn’t not appear in the 2005 Tim Burton version.

Come with me
And you’ll be
In a world of
Pure imagination
Take a look
And you’ll see
Into your imagination

We’ll begin
With a spin
Traveling in
The world of my creation
What we’ll see
Will defy
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanta change the world?
There’s nothing
To it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Wanta change the world?
There’s nothing
To it

There is no
Life I know
To compare with
Pure imagination
Living there
You’ll be free
If you truly
Wish to be

  • Thank you so much for those lovely words on a Monday – perfect. Although I have always like that song, I did not really understand why until I saw the lyric written out.

    Very inspiring! Thanks.

    Cheers!

  • …and Gene Wilder did a wonderful job of it! I’ve always loved the song myself but only really listened to it if I was watching the movie. I heard it yesterday, somewhere, maybe Facebook, and had to go get the lyrics.
